Part one · Farside Passport — Terms of Use
Farside Passport — Terms of Use.
These terms govern your use of the Farside Passport app for iOS and the Passport at farside.earth (together, “the Passport”), operated by Farside from Hong Kong. By creating an account, using the Passport, or buying a subscription, you agree to them. If you downloaded the app from the App Store, Apple’s standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies; where the two differ on your licence to the app itself, Apple’s terms prevail.
The Passport is meant for adults; see the Privacy Policy on children’s data.
One account, yours to keep or close.
You can use the Passport without an account; your map then lives only on your device. An account lets you sync across devices, connect with friends and subscribe. Keep the email address or Apple or Google sign-in you use secure — whoever controls it controls your account. Give us accurate information and don’t create an account for someone else.
You can download your data at any time, and delete your account in the app (You → Delete account) or by writing to privacy@farside.earth. Deletion removes your account and its data. It does not cancel a subscription bought through the App Store — cancel that in your Apple account settings first.
Use the Passport for your own travels.
You may not use the Passport to break the law; to harass, threaten or impersonate anyone; to post or share anything hateful, sexually explicit, violent or that you have no right to share; to send spam; to probe, scrape, overload or get around the security or limits of our systems; or to resell or copy the service or its data. What you write and share is governed by the traveller-entries terms below and the Community Guidelines. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms.
Visa, residency and day-count information in the Passport is an estimate for your planning, not legal, tax or immigration advice. Confirm anything important with the relevant embassy or authority.
Citizen and Wayfarer: what you pay, and how to stop.
The Passport is free to use. Citizen and Wayfarer are optional paid memberships, offered monthly or annually.
- Price. The price, currency and billing period are shown on the purchase screen before you buy. In the app, prices are set by the App Store for your country and include any applicable tax.
- Auto-renewal. A subscription renews automatically at the end of each period, at the then-current price, unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends. Your account is charged for the renewal within the 24 hours before the period ends. We will tell you in advance of any price increase, and where the App Store requires your consent to an increase it will ask for it.
- Cancelling. Bought in the app: open the Settings app → your name → Subscriptions → Farside Passport → Cancel Subscription (or manage it from your App Store account). Bought on farside.earth: Passport → My Account → Subscription, which opens the Stripe billing portal. Cancelling stops the next renewal; you keep access until the end of the period you have paid for. Deleting the app or your account does not cancel a subscription.
- Free trials. Where a free trial is offered, the purchase screen shows its length, the date it ends and the price that follows. If you don’t cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends, the subscription starts and you are charged.
- Founding Citizen. While places remain, a limited number of Citizen annual memberships are offered as Founding Citizen. Its annual price is locked for as long as that subscription stays active and keeps renewing; if you cancel and it lapses, the locked price and place cannot be reclaimed.
- Refunds. In-app purchases are billed by Apple, and refunds are decided by Apple under its policies; request one at reportaproblem.apple.com. Website memberships have a 7-day return guarantee: request a refund within 7 days of subscribing and we will refund it and end the subscription. Otherwise payments are non-refundable, except where the law requires.
- Changes to membership. We may add, change or retire features of a membership. If a change materially reduces what you pay for, we will tell you before it takes effect, and you can cancel.
Privacy.
How we collect, use and protect your data — including the optional Location Log, photo and calendar import, and in-app purchases — is set out in the Privacy Policy, which forms part of these terms.
What you write and share in Farside Passport.
Farside Passport lets you write journal entries and add your own photos. You keep the rights to what you post. When you share an entry with friends or submit it for publication, you give Farside a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to store and show it in the app and on farside.earth to the people you chose, for as long as it stays shared. Unshare or delete an entry, or delete your account, and that licence ends.
Farside has no tolerance for objectionable content or abusive users. You may not post anything hateful, harassing, threatening, sexually explicit or violent; anything that encourages self-harm; another person’s private details, or images of people who did not agree to be shown; spam or advertising; or anything you do not have the right to share. The Community Guidelines set this out in full and are part of these terms. You accept both before you write your first entry.
Words Farside does not publish are blocked before an entry can be shared, and every public entry is read by Farside before it appears. Any entry can be reported from the entry itself, and any traveller can be blocked, which hides their entries and ends the friendship. Reports are answered within 24 hours. Farside removes content that breaks these terms and may close the account of anyone who posts it.
To report an entry or a traveller, use Report on the entry or write to support@farside.earth.
What we can promise, and what we can’t.
We work to keep the Passport available and your data safe, but it is provided “as is”: features change, and the service may sometimes be unavailable. To the extent the law allows, Farside is not liable for indirect or consequential loss, and our total liability to you is limited to what you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer law that cannot be excluded.
We may update these terms. If a change is material we will tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect; continuing to use the Passport afterwards means you accept the new terms.

Part two · Booking information
Farside is an introducer, not a travel agent.
When you submit an enquiry through farside.earth, Farside connects you directly with a specialist operator. We research and select these operators carefully — we only recommend operators we would book ourselves — but once that introduction is made, the booking is directly between you and the operator.
Farside does not take payment from travellers. We do not hold funds, issue tickets, or manage itineraries. We are not party to any booking contract between you and an operator.
Farside earns a referral commission, paid by the operator, when a booking is confirmed. This is disclosed openly on our website and in our agreements with operators. It does not affect the price you pay.
Your booking is with the operator.
All contracts, cancellation policies, refund terms, and liability for the trip sit with the operator you book with. Before paying any deposit, we strongly recommend you read the operator's booking terms and conditions carefully and ensure you understand their cancellation and refund policy.
Farside is not liable for any aspect of the travel experience, including but not limited to cancellations, itinerary changes, operator insolvency, personal injury, loss of property, or any dispute between you and the operator.
We recommend all travellers purchase comprehensive travel insurance, including cancellation, medical, and evacuation cover, before confirming any trip.
What happens after you submit a form.
When you submit an enquiry through farside.earth, your details are logged in Farside's system and forwarded to the relevant operator. You will typically receive a response from the operator within 2 business days. Farside may follow up separately to confirm the introduction was made.
Submitting an enquiry does not commit you to any booking or payment. No funds are collected at the enquiry stage.
Your enquiry details are shared with the operator for the purpose of responding to your request. We do not sell or share your data with third parties for marketing purposes. For full information on how we handle your personal data, contact hello@farside.earth.
How we choose who we recommend.
Farside selects one operator per destination. We research operators through a combination of direct conversation, third-party reviews, and where possible, firsthand experience. We look for operators who have genuine local knowledge, a track record with international travellers, and an approach that aligns with our editorial values: specificity over volume, depth over convenience.
Our recommendations are editorial, not paid placements. Operators do not pay to be featured. The commission arrangement only applies when a booking is confirmed — there is no fee for inclusion.
We review our operator recommendations periodically. If you have a concern about an operator we've recommended, please contact hello@farside.earth.
These terms are governed by the laws of Hong Kong.
Farside is operated from Hong Kong. Any disputes arising in connection with Farside Passport or Farside's role as an introducer shall be subject to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Hong Kong, without depriving you of the protection of mandatory consumer law where you live.
These terms were last updated on 22 October 2026. Questions? Write to support@farside.earth.
